What is XETODUS?
XETODUS is a free-to-play 3D space MMO (massively multiplayer online game) that runs in your web browser on desktop and mobile. You fly your own ship across 1,725 star systems, fight pirates and other players, mine, craft and trade in a player-run economy, land on planets and build colonies. Everyone plays in one shared online universe.
Who makes XETODUS, and when did it launch?
XETODUS is published and operated by Legend Games LLC. It launched on September 24, 2026 and gets regular updates, posted on the News page.
Is XETODUS free to play?
Yes. Every combat, mining and trade ship, every free module and star system, and every core skill is free for all pilots. The optional Vanguard Charter ($4.99 a month) adds convenience, cosmetics and members' content: more pilot slots, market and contract slots, liveries, a monthly Aether stipend, 6 Vanguard skills with members' areas and 5 Vanguard hulls for them (bought with in-game credits), members' quests, a members gear tier and drone roles.
Do I need to download anything?
No separate install. XETODUS runs in a modern browser with WebGL 2: open xetodus.com, create an account and fly. On first launch the game downloads its data and keeps it on your device, so later launches are quick and updates are small patches. You can also install it as an app from Chrome, Edge or Safari for a full-screen window and a home-screen icon.
Which devices and browsers work?
Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS, plus Android, iPhone and iPad with touch controls. The game picks a graphics preset from Low to Cinematic for your GPU.
What are the system requirements?
Minimum, for the Low preset: a browser with WebGL 2 (a recent Chrome, Edge or Firefox, or Safari 16.4+), 4 CPU threads, 8 GB RAM and Intel Iris Xe, Radeon Vega 8 or GeForce GTX 1050 class graphics. Recommended, for the High preset: 8 CPU threads, 16 GB RAM and a GeForce RTX 3060, Radeon RX 6600 or Apple M2 Pro class GPU. Cinematic needs an RTX 4080 SUPER to RTX 5090 or RX 7900 XTX class card. WebGL 2 is enough. On Auto, the game also tries WebGPU where your browser supports it and keeps it only if it runs at least as fast.
Is it a single-player game?
No. XETODUS is one shared online universe. Every pilot you meet is another player or a faction NPC, and the market, clans and territory are shared by everyone on the server.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Phones and tablets get touch flight controls and lighter graphics presets. You need iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or newer, or Android 7.0 or newer with an up-to-date Chrome. It plays best in landscape on a recent device (Snapdragon 855 or newer, or any Apple chip).
Can I play with friends?
Yes. Add friends with a mutual request and see when they're online and, if they allow it, roughly where. You can warp to a friend in your system or plot a route to theirs. Form a squad for a shared fight, join a clan to take territory in Lawless space, or hire Retainer wings as escorts. When a friend signs up with your invite link and plays, you both get rewards.
Can I duel other pilots?
Yes. Four Secure trade hubs have a Battle Arena for one-on-one duels inside energy bubbles. Both pilots agree on the rules and pick a ship. An autopilot with four stances flies each ship, so the duel comes down to weapons and decisions. A ship at zero hull is disabled, not destroyed. Other pilots can watch. Duels are rated: tiers, records and Arena Points show on the Arena leaderboard and on pilot pages.
Does XETODUS have accessibility options?
Yes. Settings has an Accessibility tab: text size from 85 to 150 percent, high contrast, reduced motion, reduced flashing, three colorblind palettes with shape and word cues, larger tap targets and a stronger focus ring. You can also remap any key, move and resize the main HUD cards, and pick one of three flight gauge styles.
What are energy farms?
Gridcraft is a core skill, free for every pilot. You deploy solar arrays and battery banks at fixed anchors around a system's stars, planets and moons. Farms fill while you're away, and you press the energy into Charge Cells to sell, trade or use. A daily quota keeps the income in line with colonies and the Flotilla. Farms can't be destroyed, and Vanguard members get no extra output or protection. The Game Guide has the details.
Can I buy something at another station without flying there?
Yes. If a market within your Trading reach sells an item for less, from a pilot's listing or a trade post shelf, use Buy there, courier here: you pay there and a courier brings it to your station for a fee. Vanguard members can buy from any market in the galaxy, delivered in about 1.5 minutes per jump and never more than 30 minutes, and can ship stacks from any hangar to sell at any market.
What is the Vanguard Charter?
An optional membership for $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year (where the yearly plan is offered), billed by Stripe. It adds two pilot slots, more market orders and contracts, Vanguard liveries, a badge, cloud-saved settings and cheaper Retainer Writs, plus 6 members' skills: Flotilla (hired mining crews), Reclamation (salvage tugs that work the Deep Drift while you're offline), Xenobiology (alien crops in station Greenhouse Bays), Extracting (drill rigs on moon deposits you find with Seismic Beacons), Cartography (chart the cluster and trace each system's Deep Signal) and Droneworks (companion drones built at a Drone Bay; one flies beside your ship). Cancel any time; perks last until the end of the paid period.
Do the Vanguard skills give members an edge?
Each Vanguard skill has its own hiscore board, but none counts toward total level, pilot level, the Overall ranking or achievements. Their bonuses stay inside their own activity, except Droneworks drones, which take small, capped roles in the field. They cost credits to run. Yards and rigs that work while you're away are capped per account each day, Flotilla crews are paced by an hourly haul license, and all of them earn far less per hour than flying yourself. If your Charter ends, you keep all your XP and items.
What is a Vanguard Permit?
A Vanguard Permit is an item you buy with a card in the Vanguard store (from $2.99; larger packs cost less per permit). Each one redeems for 14 days of Vanguard Charter time. Pilots can trade permits in the game, and whoever holds one can redeem it. New permits can usually be traded at once; some purchases are held for up to 24 hours first. You need an account with a verified email to buy them. Refunds are covered in the Refund Policy.
Is there a reward for bringing friends?
Yes. Every pilot has a personal invite link in the Recruit window in the game. When a friend signs up with it and becomes an active pilot, you get the Wingmate Chevron livery and Aether, and they get a welcome pack. Later milestones add a pilot-card frame, more Aether, Vanguard Charter time, and exclusive squadron paint, titles and an engine glow. Rewards are cosmetic or account-bound, never power. A sign-up alone earns nothing, and we review referrals for fair play.
Is there a community I can join?
Yes. The official XETODUS Discord (discord.gg/fudWXK8v3b) is where pilots find wingmates and clans, share screenshots, ask questions and talk with the team. In the game, Send feedback in Settings (or F8) sends a bug report, idea or balance note to the developers, with an optional screenshot.
Are the screenshots on this page real?
Yes. Every image on this page was rendered by the game, in the same renderer that runs in your browser, at the Cinematic preset. A few battle and fleet scenes were set up in the game's developer ship viewer: we placed the ships by hand, then they fired their real weapons with the game's own effects. None of it is concept art, a pre-rendered trailer or AI imagery.
